Meter Maintenance

The Village of New London has been getting questions about the 5$ meter maintenance charge that was implemented in 2024, and we would like to provide our customers with more information. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us improve our water infrastructure, and we in turn want to improve our customer experience. Water meters have new and exciting emerging technology, just like so many other products today. Today’s water meters are more accurately keeping track of water usage and provide the customer with up-to-date information for their own personal water service. The new water meters that we will be installing will give the customer the ability to set up a water usage portal that will track each homeowner’s water usage each day. This means that leaks will be easier to detect, not only for us, but for the homeowners as well. Installing new water meters means that we will have a more accurate reading of water usage because we will be replacing aging meters that are nearing the end of their useful life. Over time, water meters wear out and become less and less accurate, or completely stop working altogether. Having new accurate meters will help us track our water production and ensure that we are delivering the maximum amount of safe drinking water to our customers. The new water meters also have a longer useful life than water meters of the past, so the frequency of having to do water meter change outs will be longer in return. We understand that there are rising costs associated with almost everything, and we share that concern. We believe that the new water meters will be beneficial to all parties involved and we want to move forward knowing that we are providing the best service and best water quality to all our customers. Thank you in advance for helping us achieve this goal!
